Can i drink while taking xarelto
Xarelto is a new blood thinner medication that decreases the risk of stroke and heart attack, but it comes with a warning: "Do not drink alcohol while taking XARELTO. Doing so can increase your risk of bleeding." It's important to be mindful of the warning when considering the pros and cons of taking this medication.
It is an anticoagulant that doesn't need to be taken with food or through injection, but through a pill. In recent news, xarelto has been linked to possible increases in strokes and gastrointestinal bleeding. A new study done by the Journal of the American Medical Association found that xarelto had a higher risk of major bleeding than warfarin.
In the United States, the FDA classifies blood thinners as “Pregnancy Category C.” This means that it is not known if this drug is safe for pregnant women to take, or if it will cause harm to a developing fetus. In an April 2018 study conducted on mice and conducted by the Department of Biomedical Sciences at University of York, it was found that long-term intake of xarelto can lead to a decrease in the size of the heart.
